Allegory n.  NOUN a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning, typically a moral or political one.

Jeremiah 9:12
Who is wise enough to understand this? Who has been instructed by the Lord and can explain it?

Biblical Allegories and Parables

last revised 3/28/2021

The great mysteries of the Bible can never be known unless the reader understands the biblical allegories. I was amazed when, after reading the Bible for many years and taking everything literally, I finally started to understand that much of the Bible was written in parables and allegories.

Proverbs 1:5-7
let the wise listen and add to their learning, and let the discerning get guidance— for understanding proverbs and parables, the sayings and riddles of the wise.

Lesson 1: Who is Blind?

When anyone starts reading the Bible for the first time, their natural instincts are to interpret everything in a literal way, so they are confused by the message.  For instance, did Adam and Eve really get punished for eating an apple? Wait till you find out the real story. It takes time to adjust our mind so let's take this one step at a time. Let's start with our first allegory— what does it mean to be blind? Blindness is what this section is all about. We have all heard that Jesus could heal the blind, and many churches lead us to believe that the people Jesus heals are physically blind.  But is that the message that Jesus is really teaching?  A few readings from the Old Testament about being deaf and blind will help to put us on the right path.

Isaiah 42:6-8
“I, the Lord, have called you in righteousness; I will take hold of your hand. I will keep you and will make you to be a covenant for the people and a light for the Gentiles, to open eyes that are blind, to free captives from prison

Jeremiah 5:21
Hear this, you foolish and senseless people, who have eyes but do not see, who have ears but do not hear

Isaiah 43:8
Lead out those who have eyes but are blind, who have ears but are deaf.

Isaiah 42:18-20
“Hear, you deaf; look, you blind, and see! Who is blind but my servant, and deaf like the messenger I send?  Who is blind like the one in covenant with me, blind like the servant of the Lord? You have seen many things, but you pay no attention; your ears are open, but you do not listen.”

Isaiah 56:10
Israel’s watchmen are blind, they all lack knowledge

2 Peter 1:8-9
For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But whoever does not have them is nearsighted and blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their past sins.;

Isaiah 29:14,18-19
Therefore once more I will astound these people with wonder upon wonder; the wisdom of the wise will perish.  In that day the deaf will hear the words of the scroll, and out of gloom and darkness the eyes of the blind will see.

Deuteronomy 16:19
Do not pervert justice or show partiality. Do not accept a bribe, for a bribe blinds the eyes of the wise and twists the words of the innocent.

Deuteronomy 28:29
At midday you will grope about like a blind person in the dark. You will be unsuccessful in everything you do; day after day you will be oppressed and robbed, with no one to rescue you.

Jeremiah 6:10
To whom can I speak and give warning? Who will listen to me? Their ears are closed so they cannot hear. The word of the Lord is offensive to them; they find no pleasure in it.

Matthew 15:14
Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

Spiritually blind people have no idea that they are confused about the Biblical message. Their blindness has led to their own suffering. That's where I was, until I realized that my priests were all blind guides and I had fallen into their pit. Once someone teaches you something a certain way, especially as a child, it becomes difficult to adjust our thinking. That is why this section is so valuable; how can we understand anything correctly when we are blind and those we trust to teach us are blind also? Another term used for blindness is living in darkness.

Luke 1:76-80
And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him, to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins, because of the tender mercy of our God, by which the rising sun will come to us from heaven to shine on those living in darkness and in the shadow of death,to guide our feet into the path of peace.”

Isaiah 42:16
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.

Turning our darkness into light, making rough places smooth and leading the blind in new ways are not physical things; and the ways are not physical paths we walk on the earth. The "way" of the Lord is the way the Lord wants us to live; the choices he wants us to make. If we trust in the Lord, we will listen to his advice and teach his commandments and laws to our children. When we realize that our ancestors and priests have misled us, we can finally see how we are actually living like prisoners of this world, working to obtain the things we thought were important but are actually leading to our suffering. Instead of living in freedom, as children of God, we realize we have become slaves to the sins of our parents' ways. Without the proper understanding of what is really "evil" and "good", we have been groping about like the blind, making choices that lead to our suffering, not to peace, love, good health and eternal life. In our blindness, we are like prisoners, trapped in a life of coveting, lust, greed, pride, drugs, alcohol and all the desires that sin provides. The fruit of our ways produces anxiety, fighting, bitterness, adultery, loss of fidelity, sexually transmitted diseases, drunkenness, depression, poverty and other forms of suffering, that work to destroy our lives. Here we see another allegory "the fruit", not an apple after all, but the product of the way we were guided to live our lives. The deception by the serpent that caused Adam and Eve to lose their easy life in paradise. People give us advice and if we follow them we have eaten the fruit from their tree.

Matthew 7:15-17
“Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. By their fruit you will recognize them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit.

Proverbs 1:30-33
Since they would not accept my advice and spurned my rebuke, they will eat the fruit of their ways and be filled with the fruit of their schemes. For the waywardness of the simple will kill them, and the complacency of fools will destroy them; but whoever listens to me will live in safety and be at ease, without fear of harm.”

Hosea 10:12-14
Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you. But you have planted wickedness, you have reaped evil, you have eaten the fruit of deception.

Jeremiah 11:19
I had been like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter; I did not realize that they had plotted against me, saying, “Let us destroy the tree and its fruit; let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name be remembered no more.”

Another allegory is the word Adam which actually means man in Hebrew.

Genesis 3:22
And the Lord God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil.

Through brain research, we can see how what we perceive as "good" produces the dopamine that controls our behavior. But only the one who understands our mind can really know what is truly "good" and what is truly "evil". Things may seem good right now, the advice sounds convincing, but what will happen down the road? That is something that brain research helps us to better understand. In the story, Adam, the man, listened to his wife and chose a different way of life, a way that led to suffering and discipline problems with his children years later. So when we are suffering in the error of our ways, we need someone to awaken our mind and save us; the way Jesus did for his disciples.

Luke 24:45
Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.

Jesus opened their minds, showed them why they were suffering and they realized they were blind to it.  Blind to the root of their suffering which stems from the bad fruit the priests fed them when they changed God Laws into worldly traditions. You might be thinking, why would a priest change the Laws given by God? Well, without the fear of God even the clergy can be victims of pride, greed, lusting and be led away from the truth to teach lies. Because the priest makes attonment for sin, the more people sin, the more profittable it can be for priests.  At one time the Pope was even selling indulgences for forgivness for different sins, to raise money for the church. Today even more problems are arising due to translation errors and the misinterpretation of the allegories in the Bible. That is why I had to study 5 different translations and learn Hebrew. Scripture tells us that a time will come when people will no longer put up with sound doctrine. Instead, they will flock to teachers who tell them what they want to hear. This grows worse generation after generation as one blind priest teaches another. Looking at the world today, the state of marriage, sexually transmitted diseases, cancer, depression, ADHD, heart disease, student debt and rising healthcare costs, we have to admit that we are blind to the root of our suffering. Blind to the Laws that once protected society from all these problems. Blind to the mistakes we make in raising children. Blind to the understanding that our sins have led us off the path to peace, good health and eternal life and onto a path that makes others wealthy at our expense. Blind to the wrath of God, that he promises to those who don't obey his commandments. Brain research shows us that once we recognize the root cause of our suffering and we repent from the heart, real changes can occur in the wiring of our brain.

Jeremiah 8:8
“‘How can you say, “We are wise, for we have the law of the Lord,” when actually the lying pen of the scribes has handled it falsely?

Matthew 15:14
Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

Isaiah 3:14
The Lord enters into judgment against the elders and leaders of his people: “It is you who have ruined my vineyard; the plunder from the poor is in your houses.

Romans 6:22
But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.

The blind regaining their sight, the lame walking and even the dead rising, all seem like supernatural miracles, if taken in a physical sense.  But once you understand the allegories and how our brain works, all the miracles that Jesus accomplished make perfect sense. The key to understanding biblical allegories is to find a reference somewhere in the Old Testament.

John 9:39-41
Jesus said, “For judgment I have come into this world, so that the blind will see and those who see will become blind.” Some Pharisees who were with him heard him say this and asked, “What? Are we blind too?” Jesus said, “If you were blind, you would not be guilty of sin; but now that you claim you can see, your guilt remains.

Matthew 13:9-11
The disciples came to him and asked, “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “Because the knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them.

Lesson 2: Brothers, Mothers and Sisters

Let's continue with another easy allegory like the words mother and brothers. Most people would think of their immediate family when they hear this.  However, Jesus tells us that his mother and brothers have a different meaning.

Matthew 12:48-49
He replied to him, “Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?” Pointing to his disciples, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers.

Luke 8:20-22
Someone told him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see you.” He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s word and put it into practice.”

So you can see that we can't assume that biblical words always mean physical things. Jesus is telling us that he and his disciples all share the same spiritual father, whose words they obey.  So in their spiritual birth, Jesus and his disciples are all related as family members and the Lord is their father because they listen to him.

By his own words, Jesus teaches us that what makes us brothers and sisters is what we believe and how we act; not simply by what we call ourselves or attending the same church.

Jeremiah 3:19
“I myself said, “‘How gladly would I treat you like my children and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.’ I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn away from following me.

This understanding applies to all Christians, Jews, Muslims or any religious sect for that matter. We are all related through how we put our spiritual father's words into practice. Today it is all too prevelant that people call themselves Christians and don't follow anything that Christ teaches.  Brothers and sisters have the same father so they share the same spirit, the same love, the same laws and the same beliefs.

Hebrews 2:11
Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

Romans 8:15
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.”

Romans 2:28-29
A person is not a Jew who is one only outwardly, nor is circumcision merely outward and physical. No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit

Philippians 2:1-3
Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves.

Here Jesus calls out the false Christians.  It takes quite a bit of reading and thinking to really understand the allegories correctly.

Luke 6:46
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do what I say?

Even the term "American" means that we are all bound by the terms of the Declaration of Independence written by the founding fathers. Today, most people who call themselves Americans are not following any of the beliefs of the founding fathers who created the term. They don't follow the language of the document and have created a new father for themselves.

John 8:43-45
Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father’s desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.

When you open your mind to understand the main beliefs of all the major religions today like I have, you would see that the world could very well be brothers and sisters.  It's the religions themselves that have strayed from the truth.  All these religions in their true form create the same spirit. This is why the Lord tells us that we must seek him with all our heart in order to find him, and Jesus warns us we need to be more righteous than the priests.  Jesus didn't come to heal the body, he came to heal the spirit and make people righteous again.

Matthew 15:14
Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.”

Matthew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.

Lesson 3: Lord vs "The Lord" vs Adoni

This is a great time to clarify the understanding behind the words lord, and The Lord, as this topic is quite misunderstood by many religions. Maybe on purpose, but most likely just due to generations of misguided teaching. See, the title, lord Jesus does not mean that Jesus is actually "The Lord" who came down from heaven in a human body. The confusion is due to the translators of the Bible who decided it would be better to remove the Creator's name from the scripture. The Creator's name in the Old Testament (from the Hebrew Bible Tanakh) is recorded with the four letters YHWH, which is apparently missing its vowels. Because of this, there is much controversy over the saying of the name. Some translators of the Bible decided to use the name Hashem which means "the name". Some chose to use "The Lord"  while still others decided to be clever and guess at what the missing vowels could be. So they chose to add an a and e and use the name Yahweh instead of YHWH.  William Tyndale (d. 1536) was the first to translate the Bible to English. He chose to use  the name Jehovah to replace the Hebrew name of Yahweh. With all these translations, the word "lord" becomes misunderstood when the word lord is used along with the Lord (for YHWH) in the same translation of the Bible. But they do not mean the same thing. Here is an example of "Lord" being used in conjunction with the name of Jesus:

Matthew 17:4 New International Version (NIV)
Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here.

Matthew 17:4 American Standard Version (ASV)
And Peter answered, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here

Matthew 17:4 Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
And Kefa said in reply to Rebbe, Melech HaMoshiach, Adoni, it is good for us to be here.

Adoni is Hebrew for lord used as a teacher or master.

Now here is an example of "The Lord" used in conjunction with the Creator:

Exodus 10:8 New International Version (NIV)
Then Moses and Aaron were brought back to Pharaoh. “Go, worship the Lord your God,” he said. “But tell me who will be going.”

Exodus 10:8 American Standard Version (ASV)
And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve Jehovah your God; but who are they that shall go?

Exodus 10:8 Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
And Moshe and Aharon were brought again unto Pharaoh; and he said unto them, Go, serve Hashem Eloheichem; but who are they that shall go?

If you notice, the ASV uses Jehovah when referring to GOD and Lord when referring to Jesus, while the OJB uses Hashem when referring to GOD and Adoni when referring to Jesus. And the NIV uses "The Lord" when refering to GOD and "Lord" when referring to Jesus. Now just to follow up, when Sarah called Abraham "lord", what name would she use in Hebrew?

1 Peter 3:6 Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
Sarah submitted in mishma’at (obedience) to Avraham Avinu, calling him ADONI

Here is another from Joseph when he was put in charge of Egypt

Genesis 45:9 (NIV)
Now hurry back to my father and say to him, ‘This is what your son Joseph says: God has made me lord of all Egypt.

Genesis 45:9 Orthodox Jewish Bible (OJB)
Haste ye, and go up to Avi, and say unto him, Thus saith thy ben, Yosef, Elohim hath made me as adon kol Mitzrayim;

I hope you can follow this now. That is why I read many translations. This is a very sensitive subject for some and another reason for religions to be divided. My personal feeling is that the Creator does have a name but he just doesn't want us to use it. He wants us to call him "Father" and respect and follow him as our "spiritual" father. This will help us to accept his laws and his punishments. For what father does not discipline his children for their own benefit and what children do not want to obey their fathers if they really love them.

Proverbs 3:11-12
My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline, and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in

Would it not be disrespectful to call your earthly father by his actual name? I think it would show the Lord disrespect if you call him by his actual name, that's why I feel that he didn't give us the vowels. To call him by his name, as perceived in our mind, is like thinking of him as just a friend. If we think of the Lord as just a friend, we will not fear him, we will not put ourselves below him, and he won't be able to help you stop us from being lured into sin. I know how much I feared my own father and that stopped me from getting into trouble or trying drugs. My father was a police officer who told me he would shoot me if I ever tried drugs because he loved me and wouldn't want me to spend my life suffering in addiction.  You know whenever I saw people using drugs, even smoking pot, my feet just couldn't move towards them.  It was like I had cement shoes on.  Now I understand how fear block dopamine production through all my brian research. See (The Spirit)

Exodus 20:20
Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. God has come to test you, so that the fear of God will be with you to keep you from sinning.”

Just my thoughts on the subject. I suggest you read up on the Tetragrammaton and make your own decision on this one.

Jeremiah 3:19
I myself said, ‘How gladly would I treat you like my children and give you a pleasant land, the most beautiful inheritance of any nation.’ I thought you would call me ‘Father’ and not turn away from following me.

Lesson 4: The Bread

Let's move on to some more challenging allegories.  The word bread is used quite often in scripture.  For instance, what is the meaning of our "daily bread"? Again, most would think of our food supply and they would again be confused.

Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.”

Exodus 16:4
Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions.

Deuteronomy 8:3
He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.

Just as the body requires food to grow, so our spirit requires spiritual food which was called manna or bread. The word of God is the bread from heaven. So our daily bread we now understand, is our daily spiritual food we digest with our mind, by reading parts of the Bible each day.  The brain wires up these words when we study, meditate, and remember them and they form actual connections made with neurons to our reward centers.  The more we think of them, the stronger the circuit grows. Since the Bible teaches us what is good and what is evil, the evil circuits get wired up to protect us by firing the dopamine inhibitor system. To see how this works as an aerospace engineer is really humbling. I strongly recommend you read the section called The Way.  Meditate on each Bible verse in the slider at the top till you have them all memorized, then you will naturally follow the Lord's ways.

What are Trees?  This next verse really helped me to understand that I was missing something.  How could trees clap their hands?

Isaiah 55:12
You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace; the mountains and hills will burst into song before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.

Allegory Chart

See the chart below for the spiritual meaning of trees to understand the allegory.

Allegory Spiritual Meaning
mother, brother and sisters People who are related by their conviction to obey the laws of the same God. They have the same spiritual Father.
bread, manna The laws and words of God as written in the Bible. Spiritual bread feeds our spirit (in our mind) and helps it grow as regular bread feeds the body to help it grow. Bread is real food, it makes neurons grow and make connections that can last a lifetime.
fruit / seed The product of an idea that is excepted and how it affects future behavior.  Example: the Fruit of your ways. Fruit produce seeds that grow in a person as they become a tree. Then they (the tree) produce the same fruit by spreading those ideas to others as fruit falls from a tree. Fruit can be bad or good, it depends on the tree.  If you agree with someone's ways and they grow in you and lead to your new behavior, you "eat their fruit".
fruit of the womb A women's biological child.
birth of the flesh Being born biologically between two human parents.
birth of the spirit Being born/reborn by a change of heart centering on what the individual considers "evil" and what is "good". Your spirit typically comes from a book or influence from another person's spirit like a parent, friend or someone like Christ. If you have the Lord's spirit living in you, then you have the "Holy Spirit". For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit. Colossians 2:5
flesh The natural "animal" instincts that your body craves like food, water, sex, alcohol, drugs, coveting, lusting which are stored in the orbital cortex of the brain.
spirit The good and bad values you have learned and trust in, that control your impulses. What makes you who you really are as a person.  Stored in the region of the brain that subconsciously controls your behavior and the way you react. Stored in the prefrontal cortex. So if the word of God is wired into your prefrontal cortex, then the spirit of God "lives" in you.  By design, the spirit can inhibit the desires of the flesh.
heart Your deepest desires or love which may or may not be known by others.  This is our final state of being that the Lord will judge us on.  If the Lord's law is in your heart because you see how good it is and love his laws, then you are righteous in his eyes.  If you previously were a sinner but have repented to the point where that sinful behavior is no longer in your heart, the Lord would never know you once sinned, you are righteous.  If you were always righteous but someone eventually tempts you into sin, your previous righteous act will count for nothing. You will die in your sin if you can't repent and get that sin out of your heart. If you obey God's laws out of fear but really don't love them, you are dead in your sin, even though you follow the law.  Please study the law and think of how wonderful life would be if everyone followed them. I am certain if you really know them, you will love them as I do.
briars, thorns and thistles Disobedient children or people who are always causing heartache in your life. Ezekiel 2:6-8 "And you, son of man, do not be afraid of them or their words. Do not be afraid, though briers and thorns are all around you. You must speak my words to them, whether they listen or fail to listen, for they are rebellious".  Helps us understand. Genesis 3:17-19 “Cursed is the ground because of you; through painful toil you will eat food from it all the days of your life. It will produce thorns and thistles for you,"
land Land is used often but many times it refers to society and not the ground.  The people in the land. A good land is called a fertile field (righteousness grows there) bad land turning towards wickedness is desolate wasteland.
tree A person who teaches or gives advice (good or bad) that is looked up to in a community along with their descendants who are the branches that share the same root (beliefs).
vine Similar to a tree but spreads out to include the entire community or nation who all share the same moral root.  The pilgrims shared this same spirit and emulated Israel when they came to America, believing that God transplanted them in the new land.  If they were to be obedient, they would grow and prosper, and if they turned away, they expected God to take away his protection of them and root them out of the land.
tree of life The Bible or person like Jesus or Moses who teaches the way of the Lord; the way that leads to everlasting life when followed.
branch A person connected to a tree because they submit to the same root ideas and values. Israel was once considered the vine the Lord planted in the new land.
stump The values of a person who is deceased that nobody follows anymore.
pruned To cut off the part of the tree/vine that does not produce the right fruit.  In other words, people claiming to be holy but are false teachers or false Christians.
mountains The highest respected authority or leader (good or bad) that a group of people look up to (follow) or try to emulate.  Examples: a priest, doctor, activist, politician. The higher the mountain, the more control that individual/group has on the people. It could be the teaching of a church, organization or ideology.  ex. The Lord, Darwin, Feminism, Liberals, Conservatives, Dr. Spock, a top athlete or celebrity. A technology leader like Einstein, Steven Hawkins or Steve Jobs.
darkness / blindness The idea of being blind to information about something that is happening or controlling you without your awareness. You just don't see what's controlling your behavior.  Spiritual blindness occurs primarily because of lack of parental teaching about the Lord's laws.  Parents today believe they know what's best for their children and trust in the ways of the world instead of the ways of the Lord.  For instance, teaching that a master's degree, good job and money, will make you happy instead of true love, children and a godly spouse.
light /open eyes The idea of being awoken to a new knowledge that helps you see what you were missing. How much better life could be if you knew it.
life / alive The idea that your current level of righteousness with the Lord would qualify you for everlasting life. If you obey God's commandments, you will choose the way of life and blessings and not the way that leads to death and curses. Deut 30:16-20
death / dead The idea that if you passed away now you wouldn't qualify for everlasting life because of your unrepented sins that still control you. Like the phrase, "you are dead to me."
risen from the dead The idea that you were once dead in your sins but you have repented from your heart (set free) and now your righteousness qualifies you for everlasting life.
alive with Christ The idea that you were once dead in your sins but through Jesus' teaching, example and sacrifice you have now repented your ways and you have become righteous. You now qualify for everlasting life when you die if you don't stray back off the path.
savior Anyone who can lead a person who is "dead in their sins" to repentance and everlasting life. The Lord is technically the real savior because his word sends his servants to help us. Jesus is the most widely spoken of savior but only if he can help someone repent and change. Without true repentance, Jesus says, "I never knew you, get away from me you evil doer." Matthew 7:23
righteous The measure of how much we obey God's laws. One hundred percent righteousness is required for everlasting life (sorry it's a narrow gate and I don't make the rules). However, you can repent of your sin, and as long as you don't repeat the sin, it will be washed clean. My feeling about righteousness is that the Lord needs to know he can trust the ones he accepts, because there are great responsibilities out there in the universe.  He tests us here on earth to know that we will not fail him in heaven by turning to the dark side.
faith
emunah, believe, trust
Belief in a promise that you don't see. If we have faith in God, we have faith in his promise of blessings if we obey his laws or curses if we disobey. Galations 3:14 see the Lord's promise Deut 30:16-20.  Faith in Christ is believing in what Jesus is telling you that you must do, to have everlasting life Romans 3:22. If you "believe in" Christ, you will repent and obey God. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Romans 3:22
evil What is bad in the Lord's eyes (not the current values of society which could call something good evil and something evil good). Like adultery, unbonded sexual activity, homosexuality, greed, selfishness, drunkenness, obesity, pride, holding grudges, jealousy, rage, harsh words, quarreling, coveting, divorce, theft, improper dressing, making your neighbor stumble into sin, favoritism, bribes, withholding money to workers, following the advice of the world (other gods), the Lord's servants using tithes for inheritable property like a house, property, boats or cars (this leads to greed), misleading people, lying, false witness, rape, not following God's laws, working on the Sabbath day, gluttony, sloth, flattery, being easily angered, mockery, spreading slander, revenge, cursing, wearing clothing designed for the other sex, not rebuking a sinner, marrying an atheist, being friends with non repenting sinners, not disciplining children with the rod.
good What is considered good and leads to righteousness in the Lord's eyes.  Loving your neighbor, obedience to God, fearing God, unselfish love, modest attire, hard work, patience, respecting parents, submission to authority, fairness, mercy, forgiveness, virginity, marriage, justice, honesty, speaking kindly, caring about older widows and the fatherless, providing for the Lord's servants with tithing or food, serving others, loaning to the poor without interest, reading scripture daily, teaching your children God's laws, thank offerings before meals, praising God, repenting sin, rebuking sinners, helping sinners to repent, keeping the Sabbath day holy by doing no work.
sin Sin is something that controls our behavior, in a negative way, that's not going to lead to something lasting and healthy.  Sin wants to control us but we must learn to master it.  Sins are understood by knowing the Lord's laws.  Sin temps you to break them.  Sin spreads by the fruit it produces in others.  Since we know the Lord designed the brain and body, all sins are unhealthy which is why the Lord doesn't want us to sin. Because of his love for us. Sinners are in a state of spiritual death, even while they are still alive physically.
vineyard Field of righteous leaders who spread their righteousness to others on the vine.
garden / pleasant field Field of trees (people with their descendants) who are righteous to the Lord. Good fruit is planted there and produces a harvest of righteousness over time.
desolate wasteland Land stripped of its trees. A land without righteousness growing there. There are briers and thorns (evil people) there but all have turned away from God.
wilderness People who are lost because there are so many bad trees in their life. Wilderness of sin. They don't know the way to the truth and are suffering from all the bad fruit they have eaten. America today is a wilderness.
thirsty People who don't know the Lord's words have grown thirsty for knowledge to end their suffering. If you are reading this, you are thirsty.
rivers The spoken words that flow out of the mouth that refresh the thirsty (those suffering due to lack of biblical knowledge). Isaiah 55:10-12  note: bread is written words, rivers spoken words.
living water When our spirit lacks water it is dead and we are thirsty. Living water is the spoken word that gives our spirit the knowledge that leads to everlasting life. The truth found in Moses' teachings that has not been corrupted by false prophets. A prophets who speaks the truth. This website is the living water.
desert A place where the knowledge of the Lord has dried up. The people there are suffering and are thirsty for knowledge.
shepherds Someone who leads a group of people by their teaching and example.
the way The way of living the Lord wants us to follow that leads to peace and eternal life. See The Way
a way in the wilderness The Lord will send a servant into the wilderness and lead everyone back to the truth. Like a crumb trail back to God.
heaven The sky above the planet we call earth. The Lord lives in the heavens not on the earth. Genesis 1:6-7  (ESV) other translations may call the heavens the sky which makes it very confusing depending on what Bible you read.
earth The dry land on the planet we call earth Genesis 1:6-7  (ESV) other translations call the earth the land. So then we are confused and think the earth is the planet.
heaven and earth heaven: the sky (water in the sky) above the planet Earth.  earth: the dry land between the oceans and the seas that appeared. See the Genesis chapter 1 on (End of Evolution).
god Whoever or whatever you put your trust in. That you live according to what they say is evil and good.  Everyone has a god because we all have an evil and good reward system in our brain.  Our god is our spiritual father. To most people today, the world and the media is their god. The Lord says, "We have as many gods as towns." Jeremiah 2:28, Genesis 3:5. He also says, "Tell those who are called my people that they are not my people and I am not their god." Hosea 1:9 MattheMatthew 7:22-23.  If the Lord is your god then you would obey him. So if you attend church but make decisions and raise children trusting in what the world says is good and evil, then I have to tell you, the Lord says, he is not your god.
God / True God Trusting what the Lord calls evil and good. When you follow the Lord, then you can say the Lord is my God.  Ezekiel 36:27-29. If two or more people trust in the same values that come from the Lord, then they can use the term God to identify the Lord, since they share the same god.  Think of it like the word father.  Your father is different than another person's father, unless that person is your brother or sister. The problem today is the church uses the term God, but everyone trusts in something else. This is deep darkness and the problem with many churches today.
son of god / God Spiritual follower of the ways of a god. If God has a capital it would mean a male who is the spiritual child of the Lord by means of his submission to his covenant and Laws. The children of God have an inheritance from the father which is everlasting life. During the time of Christ, everyone had fallen away from the truth and Jesus was the only son. But through the teaching and death of Christ, other sons would rise up. Jesus taught us the truth, "the way" back to God. "The spirit your received brought about your adoption to sonship." -Romans 8:15, Galatians 4:5, Ephesians 1:5.
